American Steakhouse — a mark with real bite.

The
overview.

American Steak House has been a cherished Connecticut dining destination since 1978 — hearty, classic steakhouse fare and a warm, welcoming room that generations of families keep coming back to.

When they set out to launch their first retail product, American Steak House Sauce, they came to me with a bigger question: how do you introduce something new while elevating a brand that hadn't changed since the day the doors opened?

Honor the heritage. Modernize the look. Make the sauce feel like a natural extension of the legacy.

The
challenge.

The original logo was cherished for its legacy but had become dated. The delicate part was balance: modernize the mark without alienating the loyal regulars who recognize it on sight.

At the same time, the new sauce had to earn its place on a store shelf — standing out against national brands while still reading, unmistakably, as American Steak House. Two audiences, one identity: long-time patrons and first-time shoppers who'd never set foot in the restaurant.

The idea

Heritage, refined.

Keep the traditional steakhouse black and red. Draw the knife and fork as one continuous, elegant line, and let the flame — central to flame-grilled cooking — carry through the system. Familiar cues, finally rendered with poise.

The launch.

The elevated mark had to earn its place on a shelf. The signature label wraps the flame at the heart of the brand around the new crest — award laurels, story and nutrition panel included.
